Remember how you felt the last time you were sick? Fever, sore throat, body aches, congestion, cough, etc. You had no control over it. It was like something foreign had taken over your body. Nothing else mattered because ALL you wanted was to go back to “normal” and feel better.
Unfortunately, we can quickly and easily allow our issues or dissatisfaction to become our single focus. We forget to appreciate our here and now, and what God has already done for us. For instance, I woke up this morning, I am healthy, I have a place to live, and so on.
We may be facing circumstances that are not going as we would hope or expect, but we still need to be grateful for the “normal” in our life. In other words, we need to Be Content and trust God to get us through the situation.
Advice from the Bible: “…for I have learned how to be content with whatever I have. I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little. For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.” – Philippians 4:11-13 (NLT)
Tony Gaskins provided insight on this topic when he said, “To be content does not mean that you don’t desire more, it means you’re thankful for what you have and patient for what’s to come.”
