Who are YOU Encouraging? – Part 1

When you encourage others, you in the process are encouraged because you’re making a commitment and difference in that person’s life. Encouragement really does make a difference.” – Zig Ziglar

During difficult times, it becomes easy to focus all our attention on our problems and how we are impacted.  Yet, we should not dwell on them, because we can begin to be consumed by it.  We should be turning our concerns over to God and trusting Him to help us through them.

Instead of “allowing” our minds to focus on ourselves, we should be looking to encourage others. It is expected of us.  In 1 Thessalonians 5:11 (NLT) it says, “So encourage each other and build each other up, just as you are already doing.” Notice how the last part assumes we are currently doing this?

So what does encourage mean?  Per the Merriam-Webster dictionary: to inspire with courage, spirit, or hope.

Why is it important? My friends, watch out! Don’t let evil thoughts or doubts make any of you turn from the living God.  You must encourage one another each day. And you must keep on while there is still a time that can be called “today.” If you don’t, then sin may fool some of you and make you stubborn… So let’s hold tightly to our faith until the end.” – Hebrews 3:12-14 (CEV)

As you can see, it is vital to encourage others so they stay faithful, but it is for our well-being too.  It will keep us from negative thoughts, fears, away from sin, and leaving God.  We are required to do this every day, along with keeping the faith.

Elie Wiesel said something impactful, “Just as despair can come to one only from other human beings, hope, too, can be given to one only by other human beings.”

Let’s give hope to others daily, and as Maya Angelou said, “Try to be a rainbow in someone’s cloud.”
