“Stay focused on your mission, remain steadfast in your pursuit of excellence, and always do the right thing.” – Mark Esper
I have been an Olympics fan since a child and have enjoyed both the summer and winter competitions.
What our athletes go through to compete is remarkable. The time and effort they invest in training so they can compete in the trials require years of dedication. For what? To earn a spot on an elite team and be known as an Olympian. And if they win their meet, they will be recognized as the “best” in the world and receive a prize (a medal).
There are several parallels between the Olympics and our walk as a Christian. So, I am pausing the “Wisdom Is…” series to explore some of these similarities.
Currently, the Olympic trials are broadcasted every day. Each athlete must compete for their given discipline. They have to exert every ounce of strength and execute their strategy successfully to beat other opponents to obtain a position on the team.
Likewise, we will face trials in our lives that require us to have a similar approach. We see this stated in James 1:12 (AMP): “Blessed [happy, spiritually prosperous, favored by God] is the man who is steadfast under trial and perseveres when tempted; for when he has passed the test and been approved, he will receive the [victor’s] crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him.”
We need to rely on God when facing a trial. To be unwavering and persistent so that we will obtain that ultimate prize from Him.
