“Wisdom ceases to be wisdom when it becomes too proud to weep, too grave to laugh, and too self-ful to seek other than itself.” – Kahlil Gibran
Now that the Olympics are over, let’s continue our journey to learn what “wisdom is.” So far, we have discussed three definitions found in James 3:17 (TLB); 1) But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure and full of quiet gentleness, 2) Then it is peace-loving and courteous, and 3) It allows discussion and is willing to yield to others. The next description indicates that,
it is full of mercy and good deeds;
These characteristics of wisdom directly address our compassion and treatment of others. We are instructed in Luke 6:36 (NCV) to “Show mercy, just as your Father shows mercy.” Additionally, we are told in Hebrews 16:13 (GW), “Don’t forget to do good things for others and to share what you have with them. These are the kinds of sacrifices that please God.”
We can truly live wisely by showing God’s heart when we demonstrate these qualities, which will positively impact the lives of others.
Ellen G. White said, “A Christian reveals true humility by showing the gentleness of Christ, by being always ready to help others, by speaking kind words and performing unselfish acts, which elevate and ennoble the most sacred message that has come to our world.” I pray that we will exemplify this.
