Watch Out for those Weeds!

“Be aware when distractions come your way. You’ll know it’s a distraction when you stop doing what you’re supposed to be doing and find yourself pondering things that have no value.”Beverly R. Imes

In the last post, I encouraged us to earnestly focus our time with God this month. We need to plant our seeds at the right time to reap a good harvest this year.

Unfortunately, the cares of life come in and distract us, and we do not stay focused on caring for our seeds, so they begin to grow and then die. We see this in the parable of the Farmer Sowing Seeds that Jesus told in Luke 8:5-15 ERV, although I’m only sharing two of the four scenarios:

“A farmer went out to sow seed… Some other seed fell among thorny weeds. This seed grew, but later the weeds stopped the plants from growing.  The rest of the seed fell on good ground. This seed grew and made 100 times more grain.”

“This is what the story means: The seed is God’s teaching… What about the seed that fell among the thorny weeds? That is like the people who hear God’s teaching, but they let the worries, riches, and pleasures of this life stop them from growing. So they never produce a crop. And what about the seed that fell on the good ground? That is like the people who hear God’s teaching with a good, honest heart. They obey it and patiently produce a good crop.

I don’t know about you, but I want to produce a good crop! Mark Zuckerberg (Facebook) said:

I’m here to build something for the long-term. Anything else is a distraction.

Let’s be intentional this month in our time with God and focus on what we are growing so that nothing can distract us. Then we will reap a good harvest.

Thank you for your time. Be Blessed… LR Maddox
