“I find joy in giving donations.” ― Sudha Murty
Giving is a heart condition that is directly connected to love. Previously we discussed the relationship between Joy & Love, so it’s easy to determine that generosity is firmly linked to joy. The Bible states in 2 Corinthians 9:7 NLT, “You must each decide in your heart how much to give. And don’t give reluctantly or in response to pressure. ‘For God loves a person who gives cheerfully.’”
We will receive joy beyond measure by exhibiting our love through generosity:
“There are those who give with joy, and that joy is their reward.” — Khalil Gibran
“Everyone can experience the joy and blessing of generosity; because everyone has something to give.” — Jan Grace
By being generous to others, we receive a blessing ourselves. Here are some scriptures that speak to this:
- Proverbs 22:9 NIV – “The generous will themselves be blessed, for they share their food with the poor.”
- Matthew 7:38 CEB – “If you give to others, you will be given a full amount in return…”
- Proverbs 22:9 CEB – “Generous persons will prosper…”
This season tends to remind us to be generous, but it should happen all year. So let each of us desire Bob Hope’s conviction when he said, “My idea of Christmas, whether old-fashioned or modern, is very simple: loving others. Come to think of it, why do we have to wait for Christmas to do that?”
Please join me next time as we continue to “focus on joy.”
[Joy is => inner gladness, delight, calm delight, or even rejoicing.]
